Pet sitting in Pardubice

A sudden trip away from Pardubice leaves little time to find someone for your pet. Help can still come from the next building or one street over, from someone who offers it a roof over its head while you are gone. What you hand over is not a payment but a thank-you: Care Points that you gained by caring for other people's animals yourself.

Local guide

A pet owner's guide to Pardubice

Handy local knowledge for keeping a pet happy here.

Carrier, muzzle and lead on Pardubice city transport

The city's trolleybuses and buses are run by Dopravní podnik města Pardubic (DPMP), whose conditions of carriage set the rules for animals. Only a dog may travel outside a carrier, and for the whole ride it must wear a secure muzzle and stay close on a short lead. Seats are off limits to it. You board with a dog outside a carrier only with the driver's knowledge, and when the vehicle is crowded the driver can turn it away. A cat or other small pet travels shut inside a carrier whose bottom will not leak. A carrier no bigger than 25 x 40 x 60 cm counts as hand luggage and rides free.

Off the leash under the city ordinance

The city's public order ordinance, No. 4/2023, bans dogs from running loose in all public spaces, streets, pavements and parks included. The exception is the areas drawn on the maps of its Annex 1, whose new version has applied since 18 July 2026. Even there the dog must stay under your constant watch and control. Dogs are not allowed at all on the children's playgrounds and sports grounds listed in Annex 2. One fenced run is on Jana Zajíce street, operated by the Pardubice III city district. It is open all year, vaccinated dogs may run there without leash or muzzle, and you clean up after yours.

District fee, eportál and the Central Dog Register

The dog fee here is handled not by the city hall but by the offices of the eight city districts (městské obvody), so your dog is reported to your own district. Do it within 15 days of the dog turning three months old or of getting an older dog. The fee, or its first instalment, is due by 15 March, or by the 15th of the following month if the obligation starts later, and the city's eportál takes payments too. If you adopt a dog from a shelter the city helps fund, you are exempt until the end of the following year, provided you report it in time. Every dog must be microchipped and, since July 2026, entered in the Central Dog Register (Centrální evidence psů). Ask your vet, for an older dog at the next rabies vaccination at the latest.

Pet sitting in Pardubice: common questions

Does a dog need a ticket on Pardubice public transport?

For a dog outside a carrier you pay the dog fare (dovozné) in the DPMP tariff, whatever the dog's size. You can pay it with a contactless card at the reader on board, after choosing the right type of payment on the touch screen. One dog rides free with a non-transferable občanská season ticket (the general one, not a pupil's or student's) valid for 30 days or more. Guide and assistance dogs need no fare.

Is a dog allowed on a Pardubice trolleybus only if it wears a muzzle?

Yes, unless it travels in a carrier. On trolleybuses and buses alike, a dog outside a carrier must wear a secure muzzle for the whole journey and be kept on a short leash. The only dog allowed without a muzzle is the guide dog of a passenger with a visual impairment, and the passenger still answers for any damage it causes. A dog stroller also counts as a carrier, even one larger than luggage, but it needs the driver's consent, and a pram with a child or a passenger in a wheelchair goes first.
