Parukářka, the hill in the middle
Officially it is Vrch svatého Kříže, the hill of the Holy Cross, but nobody calls it anything except Parukářka. It reaches 276 metres, with the city spread out west below you and the Žižkov television tower and the Vítkov monument on either side. The dog playground in the middle of the park has agility obstacles and a drinking fountain for dogs and owners, but it is open ground rather than a fenced run, so it suits a dog whose recall you trust. Prague 3 is renewing the equipment, so part of it can be fenced off while the work runs.
Vítkov, and the climb home
The other big walk is Vítkov, a long ridge above the district leading to the National Monument and the equestrian statue of Jan Žižka. Dogs stay on the leash along the paths and lawns there, off the leash only where a sign marks the spot, and never on the children's playgrounds, the picnic areas or the flower beds. The streets are the other thing to plan for. Žižkov is short blocks and steep gradients, which an older or a very small dog will feel long before you do.
Pubs, Vinohrady and the paperwork
A dog under the table is unremarkable in a Žižkov pub, though it is never a right: Czech law leaves the decision to the landlord, so ask at the door. Vinohrady starts a street or two away, flatter and quieter, and Riegrovy sady has a dog meadow along Vozová where dogs may run loose, an easy walk from most of Žižkov. If you have just moved here, a dog over three months old is registered with the district office: Prague 3 charges 1,500 CZK a year for a dog in a block of flats and 600 CZK in a house, with a lower rate for pensioners.

Can I take my dog on the metro and trams?
Yes, and with a valid PID ticket you take up to two dogs free inside Prague, one dog on PID trains. Out of a carrier the dog needs a secure muzzle, must be held on a short leash and may not sit on a seat. In a fully closed carrier with a solid bottom up to 25 by 45 by 70 cm it counts as hand luggage and needs no muzzle. A dog travelling beyond the Prague zones needs a ticket of its own, 23 CZK in the app or 25 CZK on paper.
