Pet sitting in Smíchov
Smíchov sits on the left bank in Prague 5, with the noise of Anděl at its centre and a green hillside rising straight up behind it. Leave your pet with a neighbour here and it stays in an ordinary flat, on streets it already knows. Thanks is paid in Care Points rather than cash.

A pet owner's guide to Smíchov
Handy local knowledge for keeping a pet happy here.
Up the hill from náměstí Kinských
The quickest escape from the traffic is straight upwards. From náměstí Kinských you walk into Kinský Garden, which covers the southern and southeastern slope of Petřín hill, and gaps in the medieval Hunger Wall let you carry on into the Petřín gardens beyond, so a short walk turns into an hour without much effort. Worth knowing before you unclip anything: letting a dog run free in Prague's public greenery has been banned by default since 2001 and is permitted only where the park's own sign marks it, so read the board at the entrance. Dogs are not allowed on children's playgrounds or sandpits at all.
The river path and the island
From the Smíchov embankment along Hořejší nábřeží the path runs south to Císařská louka, an island a little under two kilometres long that the Smíchov harbour cuts off from the bank. It only became an island when that harbour was dug out at the turn of the twentieth century. On weekdays the grass belongs mostly to local dog walkers and fishermen, and in the warm months a small ferry links the northern tip with Výtoň on the far bank and back to the Smíchov embankment.
Anděl, and the paperwork nobody warns you about
Anděl is one of the busiest interchanges in the city, where metro line B meets a knot of tram routes and a steady flow of shoppers, which is a lot of stimulus at once for a dog that spooks easily. A few blocks towards the hill the noise drops off, and most people who live here settle on one quiet route out and keep to it. Newcomers also tend to miss the dog tax: a dog over three months old must be registered with the Prague 5 town hall within fifteen days of you getting it, and the yearly fee is 1,500 CZK for a dog in a block of flats or 600 CZK in a family house, dropping to 200 CZK for owners over 65.

Pet sitting in Smíchov: common questions
Can I take my dog on the metro and trams?
Yes, and inside Prague it usually costs nothing extra. Within the Prague zones P, 0 and B a passenger holding a valid PID ticket may take up to two dogs free of charge on buses, trams and the metro, though on PID trains only one travels free. If your dog is not covered, a dog ticket costs 23 CZK bought in the app or 25 CZK on paper and is valid for up to 180 minutes in Prague. Outside a carrier the dog must wear a muzzle and stay on a short leash for the whole journey and may not sit on a seat. The rule differs for a dog inside a fully closed carrier with a solid base, which needs no muzzle.
What does pet care cost around Smíchov?
For commercial care in Prague a dog hotel runs roughly 400 to 900 CZK a night, a professional sitter roughly 400 to 800 CZK a day, and a single walk around 200 to 300 CZK. Treat those as ranges rather than fixed prices, and note that they describe what the commercial market charges, not what Petswap costs. Petswap does not use money at all. Care is settled in Care Points, which you earn by looking after someone else's pet, and they can never be cashed out.
